Rodney didn’t get sent to Siberia.  Instead, they put him on a team.  He’s beginning to think he would have been better off in Siberia.

Why You Should Read This:

It’s hilarious.  Col. Dave Dixon is a great character.  The insanity is contagious.

Two things: one, there are other SG-15 stories out there.  I know because I have a compiled copy that includes stories not in this version I found on AO3.  I haven’t been able to find them.

Thing two:  early on, Dixon keeps referring to his team members as “ladies” and “woman” and I was a little annoyed by that, until in later stories it becomes clear that he calls females “fellas” and “lads”, etc.  It actually turns out to be pretty funny, especially when

Teyla sighed. “He is a hard woman to replace. I am not sure I even want anyone else. Maybe Colonel Dixon will let us borrow him now and then.”

That’s right,  even Teyla buys in.  The insanity is, as I said, contagious.

When Atlantis – upon returning to the Pegasus Galaxy from Earth – breaks apart in hyperspace, only John is saved from the debris. The group of Ancients that retrieved him offer him a bargain: Either he helps them make corrections in some universes, where things have gone wrong, or they put him back where he was found. Reluctantly accepting, John embarks on a lonely journey through a multitude of universes until he finally reaches the place he could again call home.

Why You Should Read This:

This one is not for a quicky read before bedtime.  It is epic.  John is very much  like Sam Beckett, jumping from universe to universe (some of which are recognizable fan fiction ‘verses) in an effort to make sure things happen the way the Ancient woman who is his controller tells him they must happen. He sees thousands of universes, each one a little or a lot different from he one he came from.  Sometimes the universes are strange: everyone is blue-skinned, or Rodney is a woman, or John is a pregnant man.  Sometimes the universes are very much like the one he knew.  Through it all he knows the Ancients have an ulterior motive, but he doesn’t know what it is.

And over time he realizes two overarching truths:  He is in love with Rodney McKay and he wants to find a home.

Black Helicopters Series by whizzy

Title:  Black Helicopters Series or (4 parts in ebook format)
Author:  whizzy
Fandom: Stargate:Atlantis AU
Pairing:  John/Rodney
Rating: Mature
Warnings:  Go’uld body control in the later stories.
Genre:  Action/Adventure, Pre-Slash
Word Count: 141,049 (so far)

Rodney is perfectly well aware that if he gets involved in this whole “save the downed American pilot” thing that the Air Force is going to come after him–that he will very likely be “disappeared” as a massive security risk. It’s not like he wasn’t warned.  He does it anyway.

Why You Should Read This:

This is an AU.  Rodney, having burned several bridges with the American military, has moved to the wilds of Canada, and has converted an old cable TV satellite dish into the largest amateur radio telescope in the world.  He’s going to prove there are aliens out there and that the US government is probably covering it up.

Then he accidentally hears John, who has been with the SGC for a while, trying to get rescue after his alien space ship crashes.

The various stories of the rescue and the consequences for Rodney and John  are a combination of  long plotty stories and short, sharp stories.  The plotty stories are GREAT.  The character development is even better.  This is a long, plotty tale of two men fumbling their way to loving each other.  Because neither will talk to the other (plus there is that whole DADT thing), it takes a while.

I’ve hesitated to recc these stories, even though they are some of my favorites, because the last major story in the series (so far) is not on AO3 with the earlier stories.  I’ve read it, some time ago, but it has since been moved to Google Docs and locked.  I have no idea why. People have tried contacting the author to no avail.  Which is a damned shame.

Still, each story in the series is complete in itself, and the available parts of the story are more than worth reading. You can join the rest of us waiting and hoping that more will be available.
