Why You Should Read It:
Its a lovely “what-if” tale revolving around John and Sherlock meeting as teenagers.  Their personalities are sharp and jagged, but fit neatly together.  Their relationship is a bit unhealthy but very them.  I’m labelling it “dark” because of some light themes that appear, but are very muted.  The sequel (yet to be posted) is supposed to expand a bit on these.  Harry is a great character and I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen Sherlock’s father in fic as a character and not just a very minor presence.

Summary: After Inception, the team splits up. Arthur takes on a private job but is betrayed and forced to lock down his subconscious, dropping him into a coma. In the war-torn world of Arthur’s mind, will Eames be able to save Arthur before he slips away forever?

Why You Should Read This: Arthur is heartbreakingly loyal, Eames is in love, Cobb is awkward but supportive. The back story for Arthur is beautifully built and rendered in such a way in the story that it steals your breath away. Eames is loyal and fierce with his love and his desire to save Arthur from a situation no one believes he’ll survive. The ending is satisfying and beautiful. Give yourself a day to read it — it’s long and a very intense read.

Summary: When Jack tries to convince himself that he belongs with Sam, Daniel disappears off-world. A desperate search for Daniel ensues, but only Jack can find him, following his heart across the universe to the man he loves

Why You Should Read This: This story is at times sad and kind of heart breaking and at other pretty funny.Jack is kind of a idiot and turns out he was right in the end. Plus really cute creatures that you would want as a pet and then fell as stupid as Jack and Daniel.

Summary: Daniel has a theory. Can you ever really have too many ‘Aliens Make Them Do It’ stories?

Why You Should Read This:
This fic is also known as “the one where aliens condition Jack and Daniel to have sex together.” Jack and Daniel are locked into what appears to be a doorless room, and blinking lights and tapping sounds condition the boys. A great spin on the “Aliens Made Them Do It” trope, and the relationship build between them is believable and perfect. The sex is hot and the author does great dialogue (I do so love bickering) and the ending is pure gold.

Summary:
While chasing after Imhotep and Alex, Jonathan finds his attention drawn to a certain Med-jai warrior far more often than it should be…

Why You Should Read This:
There is not enough of this pairing in the world. I’ve found very few and this is the only one of any real substance that I’ve found. It’s just fantastic. It really manages to catch Jonathan’s voice and the romance is lovely and slow building. Ardeth is patient and really, the sex is hot. And also, Ardeth’s mum is awesome!

Why You Should Read This:
Because it’s hot and sexy and Cho get’s his swagger on. And really there is not enough Cho/Jane love out there, but this is a great example of how awesome this pairing is! I love this fic. To be fair, I love all of X_Art’s fics. Trust me, check out all of her fics because you wont be disappointed. As it was I found it hard to just pick on of her fic’s to rec as a gateway. I decided on this one because it’s a really good example of her writing style and also how she works through a fic with her characters.

Summary:
Dr. Reid receives a letter from Nathan Harris who has been released from psychiatric care. Will Dr. Reid find Nathan before he finds the team and a fresh crop of victims?

Why You Should Read This:
So I feel a bit iffy rec’ing this because it is really a hard read. I usually stick to only happy fics because I don’t read fanfiction to cry, and this one had me bawling by the end. It’s a very powerful read, it’s scary, it’s captivating and wow, it is so worth it if you can get past the really horrible parts. Nathan Harris is one of the only characters from Criminal Minds that I really left the episode feeling for, it’s probably the only reason I first tried this piece. But once I had, the writing drew me in and I couldn’t fathom not finishing. There is a surprise pairing at the end that sort of comes out of nowhere, but it gives a nice ending to the story that almost makes up for making you cry. Almost.

I can’t stress enough that it isn’t for the faint of heart, and has a lot of triggers. So please be careful.

Summary: In response to a direct order from the President, the military finally takes steps to correct its discriminatory attitude toward gay and lesbian soldiers. Following this groundbreaking event, Jack O’Neill comes out to his team, losing the support of one of them. Daniel decides to help his friend truly come to terms with his newly recognized orientation, and gets far more than he ever expected

Why You Should Read This: Interesting story about Jack and what he been through.Realising he was gay at a young age and then knowing in order to do what he wanted to in life that he could never be himself. Once he can ,coming out only to help others. Daniel is rather oblivious but gets there in the end. Bonus apperince by mini Jack.

Summary: It’s all his damned knee’s fault. If it wasn’t for his body’s betrayal, no one would have found out about the fight club, or about his dad practically leaving them to fend for themselves after their mother’s death. And they certainly wouldn’t have sent the four of them kids to Hawai’i, to live with their aunt and uncle. Although, Danny has to admit that the class president offers a not-so-small consolation…

Why You Should Read This:
This fic starts off as an AU and then segues into canon neatly. The author did a wonderful job with the emotions in this fic – the death of Danny’s mother is so sad, and the children’s reactions to said death are believable.  I could see teen!Danny as the author wrote him – hurt, trying so hard to keep it together while he takes care of his siblings, resorting to fighting as an outlet. The author was very good at creating younger versions of our beloved characters and making it clear that they will grow into the people we know from the show. Steve is a goof, Danny is so responsible, and everything is lovely.

Summary: Inspired by the Norse myth of Nari and Vali.

Why You Should Read This:
Because It’s one of the most original fics in this fandom. Loki is complex and sweet. Clint is confused and Phil is the usual straight man. I loved this fic from beginning to end.

Summary:
The war has ended. Snape is supposed to be dead. He’s not.

Why You Should Read This:

This is a beautiful and haunting story of Harry and Severus that is fully epilogue compliant.

The story starts at the end of the Deathly Hallows where Severus has died, yet the story is told from Severus’ point of view. For Severus’ painting has woken and he quickly finds he is not like the other paintings – he is more ‘alive’ and able to interact with the living than any other painting. Over the years, the two men learn to understand, respect and then love.

Because Severus is dead, Harry is free to marry Ginny and have those kids we met in the epilogue. Because we ‘knew’ Harry for so long, it’s easy to forget he’s still a teen-ager at the end of the books and still has to grow up. We watch — along with Severus — Harry grow up, mature and become an adult but not without some trials and tribulations along the way. You’ll laugh and cry before you’re done.

Pir8fancier has written several Snarry fics but declared this to be her last one; it became her canon on how Severus and Harry came together. , That’s too bad since she writes lovely stories and I can recommend them all.

Summary: Another way the Baron rose to power. Another way the wizard became a Knight. This is what happens when you take your lessons in heroism from Machiavelli and Vetinari.

Why You Should Read This:
Because this is the Dresden Files fic, in my opinion. What would have happened if Harry had accepted Marcone’s offer to work for him? How would that have changed events in the books? Lucia has an amazing grasp on the characters. Marcone is sly, calculating, but completely accepting of Harry and his personality. Harry is as he always is – protective of his city, powerful, reckless. Marcone wants a partnership, he doesn’t want to squash Harry, and he’s willing to wait for what he wants. This fic covers a lot of ground – both in terms of going over the first few books and Harry and John’s relationship. Harry believes himself straight, and John is willing to change his mind centimeter by agonizing centimeter. Believable, plotty, gradual, wonderful.

Summary: The unique thing about Event Horizon, and something Rodney was quite proud of, was that the store itself was a physical representation of the mind of its owner. The filing system that had so amused Sheppard served a greater purpose. The problem was that Rodney hadn’t yet figured out just what that purpose was. He only knew that he liked things a certain way. If one took a moment to piece the filing system together, they would realize that it told the story of one man, perched behind his counter, trying to fend off the world.

Why You Should Read This:
This fic is woefully unknown. As far as I can tell, the author hasn’t posted a link to the McKay_Sheppard livejournal community, so most don’t even know it exists, which is a damn shame. It deserves way more hits and kudos than it has Rodney owns a bookstore with its own unique organization and John owns a surf shop a few businesses down. John barges his way into Rodney’s life, pulling a reluctant Rodney out of his quiet life and into one with friendship and teenagers and surfing (and, eventually, love). I love that owns his own business in this – many AU’s have John owning a shop and Rodney being a patron, but this is a refreshing take. It’s also not filled with angst (though there a little), which is another nice change – for all the variety the SGA fandom has, there aren’t that many fics that are long and mostly happy all the way through -  and sometimes I want a happy read to match my good mood. Read this, you won’t regret it!

Why You Should Read It
The characterization is wonderful and awesome and the snark is great.  I’d consider it a fairly nice introduction to the fandom and pairing because it fills you in on need-to-know infromation as it goes along.  Chronologically, this takes place after the events in Iron Man II and The Hulk, but before the events in Thor.

Summary: Frannie’s got a romance novel with a big strapping Mountie on the cover, shirt hanging open, hair blowing in the wind, you know the kind.

Why You Should Read This:
Due South was great at taking implausible, crazy plots and making them seem normal within the context of the show – and this fic does the same. Who would suspect a kangaroo of being on the streets of Chicago, of all places? Casefic, but it’s Due South casefic, which means it’s hilarious and random and slashy A delightful, fun read that’s not too long. If you’re in need of cheering up, this would be an excellent fic to try!

Why You Should Read This: This is the first story in a 11 part series that is a lot of fun, and the sex is smoking hot. It asks the never before asked question, what would happen if someone with the Ancient gene and an immortal had a lot of hot sex.  I really like going back and rereading it every once in a while. There are a few sub-plots of intrigue and mystery, but really, I read it for the sex.

Summary: Arthur is a BNF and Merlin is his prized beta.

Why You Should Read This:
Because Arthur is a HBO Camelot fandom BNF and Merlin is his fanfic beta. What more reason do you need? I love this fic – I love how it captures fandom, told from the view of beloved characters. I love how Arthur comes to depend on and value Merlin, how they decide to meet in real life – now that I think about it, there isn’t anything that I don’t love about this fic. You should totally read this, it’s fun and light-hearted, and fandom-focused! Written for the Merlin Kink Meme, then reposted in a neater format.

Summary: (No author summary.) Japanese salaryman Ryou stumbles into an alternate universe and joins up with warrior Darius, whose life he saves. They have adventures together traveling the Outlands.

Why You Should Read This:  The Outlands are a series of universes that overlay the familiar like an onion and are ruled by the mysterious Magian, who traverse the multi-verse with the powers of the mind and higher mathematics.  This is a wonderful action/adventure historical epic with enough world!building to satisfy even the most die-hard. The romance between Darius, a barbarian Greek-style hero and Ryou, an “ordinary” Japanese accountant, is smokin’  hot and doesn’t take a back seat to the well-developed plot. Plus there are some great side characters including my favorite, the political savant and cross-dressing King Leyam,  brother to Darius. A warning though as only the first book (or Arc) of the series is complete, though it does provide a nice stopping point for the romance.

Summary:
Drinking, sex, and a total misreading of the concept of fuck buddies.

Why You Should Read This:
It’s a lovely bit of porn wrapped up in too much drinking, fashion, a grand misunderstanding, and Ron is enough Hermione for everyone. It amused me and made me laugh and the sex was smoking. Also? It might have the best summary EVER.
