It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a partner.
Less universally acknowledged is that a single man in possession of very little in the way of fortune may be in want of a partner as well, but John Watson had little time or energy to devote to his own wants or needs…

Enter one Mr Holmes…

Why You Should Read This:

I have a weakness for historical au’s. In this story John is Elizabeth Bennett and Sherlock is Mr. Darcy. Sherlock makes a perfect Mr. Darcy and the author does a great job of fusing Sherlock with the style of Jane Austen. This is a wonderful and well written story.

The plot follows that of the novel but there are enough differences that the story is interesting and doesn’t feel stale at all. The author also does a good job of adapting the story for two male leads. I also loved seeing my favorite Sherlock characters take on the roles of characters in the original novel. The Measure of a Gentleman is a long, plotty and charming read.  It is one of my top ten Sherlock fics.
